Matthys started his photography career as a teenager when his father gave him his first Pentax 35mm film camera to capture his friends surfing on the East Coast. From here his love for photography grew and he decided to pursue his passion as his vocation.
After finishing high school in 1998 in the Boland town of Worcester, he went on to study photography in Stellenbosch. Here he met his wife Sunet, who now uses her advertising background to help run their business.
Living and working in Cape Town, he gained valuable experience in the stills, film and video industry. When digital started taking over from film, he moved with the times and started training at The Pixel Foundry as an assistant, giving him an excellent background in digital expertise. In 2006 he became a photographer shooting predominantly food, alcohol, product and lifestyle, giving him a broad base of knowledge and experience.
After several years, he realized his true skill and passion lay in food photography, which has become his main focus. He is proud to say that he has worked with some of the top food stylists in the industry; along with extensive recipe book photography for the likes of Struik Publishing House and Jan Braai (Human & Rossouw, Book Storm).
In April 2014 he finally opened his own studio close to the trendy Biscuit Mill. This light, studio with its relaxed ambiance provides the perfect backdrop to showcase his photographic skills.
We look forward to welcoming you to our ‘home away from home’ soon!
